4/11/2019

Natasha Thomas hit a 94th minute winner as Town came from behind to beat Enfield Town 2-1 at QE2 Stadium on Sunday.
Tia Bailey had given the hosts the lead in the first-half before Maddie Biggs replied for Ipswich just after the hour-mark, with Thomas completing the comeback with the last kick of the game.

It was an even game in the early stages of the first half, with no clear-cut chances for either side. However, Enfield took the lead in the 36th minute as they won a free-kick in a dangerous area. With the initial strike crashing into the wall, the ball deflected into the path of Bailey, who fired low underneath the scrambling Nikita Runnacles to put her side in front.

Town thought they had equalised four minutes later as Thomas stabbed home after Sophy Stonehouse spilled Paige Peake's corner but the referee adjudged that Lucy Egan had fouled the Enfield stopper at the back-post - a decision that infuriated the Ipswich bench. The Tractor Girls continued to create more chances and went close with two opportunities in quick succession just before half-time as Sophie Peskett cut inside of her full-back before hitting the subsequent shot high, which was followed by a similar effort from Anna Grey.

Five minutes into the second half Town came very close to levelling the game when Grey put on the afterburners and raced away before beating the covering full-back and cutting it back to captain Amanda Crump, who soon had her head in her hands after missing an open goal from six-yards. However, just after the hour mark, Town equalised when substitute Biggs smashed home after Thomas has nodded down across the six-yard box.

Town then went on to find a winner deep into injury-time as a calamitous mix up at the back by Enfield allowed Thomas to turn the ball into an open net and ensure the three points returned to Suffolk.

The result sees Town regain top spot in the Women's National League Division One South East Table and extend their lead over second-placed Billericay Town to three points.

The Tractor Girls return to action this Sunday at home to AFC Basildon in the first-round of the Women's FA Cup.

Town: Runnacles (GK), Pannifer (Wakefield),  Peake, Egan (Cooper), Hubbard, Sutherland (Biggs), Lafayette, Crump (c), Peskett, Grey, Thomas.
