Town maintained their outstanding run of form by defeating London Bees 3-1 in difficult conditions at The Hive on Sunday.
Zoe Barratt put the Blues ahead after just three minutes before 17-year-old midfielder Sarah Brasero-Carreira doubled Town's advantage on her first senior start for the club. Eloise King netted for the second game in succession in the second-half, with Danielle Puddefoot pulling one back for the North Londoners from the penalty spot.
Town came out of the blocks flying as Brasero-Carreira forced an early save from Faye Hazleton. However, just a minute later the Bees' stopper was picking the ball out of her net. After receiving the ball on the right-flank, Barratt beat the full-back before crossing into the area and with the help of the wind, the ball slipped through the hands of Hazleton at the back-post and dropped into the net. Minutes later, Town were two to the good as Brasero-Carreira marked her first start for the club with her first senior goal. Kyra Robertson fed the ball wide to Anna Grey, whose cross was helped on by King, and eventually came to the England youth international to sweep home inside the area.
Soon the weather took a turn for the worse as both sides were struggling to play their desired style of football in the heavy wind and rain. However, the Tractor Girls remained on top of proceedings and could've had a third goal inside thirty minutes but after an outstanding driving run and intricate pass from Grey, Barratt saw her shot crash against the far-post with Hazleton well-beaten.
Conditions eased slightly after the restart but both sides started the half slow until Paige Peake glanced Abbie Lafayette's free-kick just wide of the post. Town continued to battle hard and got their reward just after the hour-mark as King turned in Barratt's low-cross at the near-post to give the Tractor Girls a three-goal advantage. Minutes later, Bees were awarded a penalty as Lucy Egan was adjudged to have bundled Flo Gamby over in the area. Puddefoot stepped up and fired the ball into the corner of the net despite Sarah Quantrill guessing the right way. Not much else would happen in the game until two minutes from time when Maddie Biggs pressured Hazleton into a scuffed clearance, with the ball dropping invitingly for Natasha Thomas to strike, but the Town forward dinked the ball just wide after attempting to lob the goalkeeper.
The result sees Joe Sheehan's side remain second in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division table behind leaders Southampton on goal difference.
Town: Quantrill (c), Boswell (Hubbard), Peake, Egan, Hughes, Lafayette, Robertson (Biggs), King, Barratt, Grey (Thomas), Brasero-Carreira
Unused: L. Jackson, A. Jackson
