Sophie Peskett says that it is 'an amazing feeling' to be to the first ever professional female footballer at Ipswich Town.
The Club announced that the 18-year-old had penned a two-year-deal earlier today, cementing her name in the history books as the Tractor Girls first ever full-time professional player.
Having joined the Club aged 16, Sophie told iFollow Ipswich that working with manager Joe Sheehan and the prospect of playing in the third tier following the Tractor Girls' promotion to the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division made her decision an easy one.
"With the amount of support and opportunities I’ve been given here, it was a no-brainer really," said the teenager. "That’s why I want to commit my future to this Club. It’s obviously an amazing feeling being the first, it’s nice to get the deal done."
"I was saying to my parents the other day how crazy it is what the club is now offering. Looking back to two years ago, I never would’ve thought that any of us would be in this situation.
"It’s so unheard of [outside of the top two divisions of women's football] and that shows how serious we are as a club. That’s a reason why I love this club so much because it shows the real intent to strive and do well.
"I’ve known Joe for so long. He trained me when I was younger and brought me in here so obviously we’ve got a good relationship. We get on really well and he’s committed to my future and my career so that definitely was a big factor."
