Blue Wilson is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a lower-leg injury whilst on international duty.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who has been a standout performer since her move from Manchester City last summer, sustained a non-contact injury during a training session with the England U19s at St. Georges Park last week and subsequently underwent a scan.
The results showed that Blue suffered a stress fracture to her right fibula and she will now undergo a period of rehabilitation at the club. It's estimated that the Town midfielder will miss up to three months of action.
It's a blow for both the Tractor Girls and Blue herself, who was one of six Town players away with the Young Lionesses last week at a selection camp for next summer's Women's U19 European Championships in Belarus.
Town will be hopeful that Wilson will return in plenty of time to help the team in the second-half of the Women's National League season and potentially earn herself a place in the England U19 squad alongside fellow Tractor Girls Anna Grey, Eloise King, Abbie Lafayette, Paige Peake and Sophie Peskett.
With Wilson sidelined, the likes of Lafayette, Paige Wakefield and Lucy Egan will look to fill the void in defensive midfield, with the latter particularly impressive in last Sunday's victory against Hashtag United.
In reaction to the news she will miss significant time, Wilson said; " Obviously I'm gutted to be missing the start of the season but I have full confidence that the team will continue to perform at a consistently high level."
She added; " I'm targeting Christmas as a target return date but we'll see how it goes. I'm ready to smash this rehab and ensure I can get back as soon as possible to help the team achieve our aims for the season."
Everyone at Ipswich Town Football Club wishes Blue a speedy recovery.
